Garage Door T Weatherstrip
Make no mistake about it – installing a garage door T weatherstrip can be a real hassle. This guide will take you through the basic steps, so that you can install this strip with ease.
If you are tired of crooked strips, you should know that there are some tricks involved within installing a garage door T weatherstrip properly. To begin, you will need to purchase a weather-stripping kit along with the proper nails (1”galvanized roofing nails should work). Next, you will have to go through the process of removing the old strip in order to install the new one.
In order to remove the old strip, take away any nails and staples that are inside of it. If you cannot remove any nails or staples, simply hammer them flat against the side of the door. Then, sand the bottom of the door, and coat it completely with a clear wood preservative. Next, place the door at a chest high position, and clamp it in place. Unroll the weatherstrip making sure that it is long enough to cover the length of your door. Place the strip with the overhang extending into the frame.
Then, line up the strip so that it does not pass the door completely. Place one staple through the strip and into the bottom of the door. Measure the strip so that it meets the end of the door, and finish stapling the strip into the bottom of the door. Lastly, raise the door so that it is in a position where you can easily hammer, and hammer in those nails that you purchased with the kit. It is best to place the nails in-between each staple in order to ensure durability. That’s all there is to installing a garage door T weatherstrip.
Remember to install both the staples and the nails, since the staples will not hold the strip on their own. Still, those staples will ensure that the strip stays straight until the nails can be placed into the frame.
In no time flat, you will have the perfect garage door T weatherstrip. Straight, even, and ready to work with that door, this type of strip system is just what you need to complete the job. Forget about fussing with those confusing instructions, and follow this easy guide the next time that you have some door work to do.
