The garages of most homes come with minimal insulation. This makes them cold in the winter and like an oven in the summer. Many people combat the oven effects by leaving their garage doors open. This makes sense as the flow of air through the structure will cool it and keep interior elements of the home that share a wall with the garage cooler as well.

Unfortunately, many people just leave their garage doors open without keeping an eye on them. This leads to theft pure and simple. It might be your neighbor doing their best Homer J. Simpson imitation or something a bit more tawdry. Regardless, a wide open garage door is an invitation for theft. 

You might be thinking that you don’t have to worry about this since you live in a nice neighborhood. Wrong. Don’t automatically assume the thieves are from your area. If you were a their who was going to do some open garage door five finger discount work, what neighborhoods would you focus on? The nicer ones. 

The summer is a time to get out and enjoy life. Okay, beating the heat is an issue as well. If your garage turns into an oven, feel free to open it so long as you keep an eye on it. Alternatively, consider adding insulation to it. It will save you money in the summer and winter.
