Garage Door Opener Adjusting

Garage door opener adjusting really shouldn’t be difficult, but it can mean the difference between a door that works and one that barely works.

There is nothing better than coming home after a long day in order to have your garage door open and waiting for you. If you happen to live in a particularly cold climate, garage door opener adjusting is extremely important. After all, you want your remote to reach that door no matter how nasty the weather gets, right? So, to begin these adjustments you will have to figure out what your door is capable of. Some doors have various features, while others are fairly straight forward.

The first thing to adjust is the limit of the remote. If you find that your door does not fully open or close, the limit must be adjusted. To do this, look at the main panel of the opener for adjusting screws. The limit can be moved by turning in it clockwise in order to open it up completely. You can also adjust the force if you feel that the door is not opening and closing as it should. To fix the force, look at the same main panel for another set of screws. Simply turn the screws to create the optimal force.

Lastly (and most importantly) when it comes to garage door opener adjusting, you want to make sure that your system is safe. All doors today come with a safety feature that will stop the door from closing if something is in its path. To test this feature, place something in the way of the door to be sure that the door stops. If it does not stop, adjust this feature by pressing the reset button on the remote.

Since doors are often very heavy, it is important that the safety feature be engaged at all times. You never know when a child or pet may run underneath the door, so it is always a good idea to be sure that the door will stop.

Now that you know all about garage door opener adjusting, you can play with your remote until you get it exactly as you want it. Remember to go through all of these adjustments if your door is new, this way you can be sure that it functions properly.
