Sooner or later, the power will go out in your area. In this article, we take a look at how to open a garage door when the power fails. It is a fairly simple process.

As a safety measure, we build trip switches into every electrical system. When the juice gets rambunctious, these switches are tripped and the current is broken. This keeps everything attached to the electrical current from being fried. This is true whether the switch is at a utility provider or on the side of your home.

When power goes out at your home, you can just flip the switch back and fix the problem. When it is the entire area, there isn’t anything you can do but wait for the problem to be fixed by others. Most people light candles or just drive off to somewhere that has power. This second option can be a problem when the car is in the garage. In truth, it is not much of a problem at all.

Every garage door opening system has a manual option. The key is to find it. The vast majority of systems have a cord that hangs down from the track running between the opener and the garage door. If you pull down, you’ll here a pop. The garage door is now free of the opener and will swing as though no opener exists. You can then just open it, pull the car out and lower the door. Make sure to lock the garage door with a padlock so nobody can just open the door and walk in to steal your stuff!

When the power goes back on, you’ll want to reconnect the garage door. That is simple. Just click the garage opener. You’ll here the track start running. When it stops, put the garage door into the open position slowly. Sooner or later, it will reengage with the pulley system. You’ll know it happens when there is a click.

And that is how to open a garage door when the power fails. Pretty simple, eh?
